charmed i'm sureTitle: Charmed I’m Sure
Author: Elliott James
Series: Pax Arcana
Publication Date: January 1, 2013

Synopsis: This is the first in a series of short stories by debut author Elliott James. The first of his novels, Charming, will be out in September 2013.

When Tom Morris encounters a naked man walking along the interstate with no memory of how he got there, the smart thing to do is drive away. The only problem is, Tom Morris has secrets of his own. Like the fact that he comes from a long line of witch finders, monster slayers, and enchantment breakers, or that his real name is Charming. John Charming.

Review: I’m new to this series so I decided to start with the novellas. It was a little confusing at first, I don’t know anything about John Charming, who he is, or what he can do, or anything about this world. Other than that, this was an interesting read and I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

don't go chasing waterfallsTitle: Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls
Author: Elliott James
Series: Pax Arcana
Publication Date: January 1, 2013

Synopsis: Nothing with the Cunning Folk is ever free. When John Charming goes to Sarah White for help with a minor ghost problem, he soon finds himself dealing with a restless spirit on a completely different scale. And the last thing you want to be when hunting a water spirit is out of your depth…

Review: This one was much more interesting than the first one. I really like Sarah and Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls has me more curious about this world. This one does follow shortly after ‘Charmed I’m Sure’ so you definitely should read these novellas in order. Only five left before the first book Charming, I am looking forward to reading them all!

pushing luckTitle: Pushing Luck
Author: Elliott James
Series: Pax Arcana
Publication Date: January 1, 2013

Synopsis: Trying to make money off the grid, John Charming discovers an underground poker tournament where the hors d’oeuvres are made of human flesh and the players are gambling with much more than their money. All bets are off.

Review: Not sure I liked this one too much but it definitely shows more of the world. I’m still not sure how I feel about John Charming but the writing is good and for now James has me intrigued in his story and world so I will keep reading.

Stars:★★★
Recommendation: Sure, these are the first three novellas
