cast in honorTitle: Cast in Honor
Author: Michelle Sagara
Series: Chronicles of Elantra
Publication Date: November 2, 2015

Synopsis: Elantra stands strong, but countless numbers of Hawks, the city’s staunchest protectors, were lost in the brutal attack. Humans, Barrani, Aerians, Leontines—none of the races emerged unscathed from the defense of the city. Homes were lost, families were scattered…and the outcast Barrani Lord Nightshade is missing from his castle in the fiefs.

Yet as the chaos surrounding the battle begins to wane, Private Kaylin Neya’s duties must resume, despite her grief. Called in to investigate a triple murder in a quiet part of town, Kaylin and her companions are soon embroiled in a case that is anything but routine. Evidence of the deadly Shadows that still threaten the city leads to hints of ancient, forgotten magics. And a visit to the Oracular Halls points directly to Ravellon—the heart of the Shadows and the darkness they contain.

But it is there that Lord Nightshade will be found—if he still survives.

Review: Kaylin really needs more magic lessons. It is a little frustrating that 11 books into the series and she (and us) still know next to nothing about what being Chosen means, or how to do magic. Yes a lot has happened in such a short time but you would think that that would be more of an incentive for them to push more magic lessons on her than to send her on patrol all the time. But nope. Lessons like twice a week and on patrol the rest of the time, oh and can’t forget the etiquette lessons, because those are so much more important than teaching her how to control and use her magic to stay alive. Also why haven’t the dragons taught her the ancient tongue? That would be much more useful to her than etiquette lessons, like for real start teaching the woman something useful. When she arrived in Elantra from the fifes they argued on whether or not to kill her because of the potential danger she possessed and what she might do in the future. YET THEY’VE DONE NOT TAUGHT HER REALLY ANYTHING SHE NEEDS TO KNOW TO HELP HER AS CHOSEN.

Again I’m going to say this, and I will say this every book and every review until it happens, I WANT MORE OF NIGHTSHADE! He is seriously the most interesting character in this series and we rarely ever see him even though he this hugely important and forbidden thing to Kaylin that we don’t even fully understand. Like seriously just give me a book with Nightshade and Kaylin and I’ll stop whining about it and be super happy (although I love this series so much). The wait for Cast in Flight is going to KILL me! I need it NOW!

Stars: ★★★★
Recommendation: YES go get the first book now!
