Author: Pamela Palmer
Series: Vamp City
Publication Date: May 29th, 2012

Synopsis: Vampires live only for lust and pleasure in the eternal twilight of Vamp City. But the city’s magic is dying. The only person who can restore it? A beautiful woman from the mortal world…one who knows nothing of the power she wields.

Quinn Lennox is searching for a missing friend when she stumbles into a dark otherworld that only she can see—and finds herself at the mercy of Arturo Mazza, a dangerously handsome vampire whose wicked kiss will save her, enslave her, bewitch her, and betray her. What Arturo can’t do is forget about her—any more than Quinn can control her own feelings for him. Neither one can let desire get in the way of their mission—his to save his people, hers to save herself. But there is no escape from desire in a city built for seduction, where passion flows hot and blood-red.

Review: If you’ve heard this is a paranormal romance you were told wrong. There is no romance in this book at all, it is definitely an urban fantasy book. If you’re looking for romanticized vegetarian vampires you’re not going to find them in this book. Palmer has definitely taken me back to when I was 10, when vampires used to be ‘mean’, at the top of the food chain, creatures that go bump in the night and had no qualms at taking blood from humans. This isn’t something that is largely popular right now but man it’s nice to see a novel that doesn’t romanticize vampires. The set up for this book is interesting and I was intrigued from the get go. I was a bit nervous when I borrowed it from the library but I’m definitely glad that I read it. Overall I didn’t have a problem with any of the characters, I didn’t find any of them to be annoying/whiny or any of that. Palmer didn’t have that female that ‘all the boys love’ which is a great plus for me since that seems to be a big thing in vampire books. If you’re looking for ‘real’ vampires then I say give this book a shot, but beware there is a lot of torture, abuse and near rape mentioned, if you can’t handle that then this isn’t the book for you.
